About me

A childhood watercolor set, rediscovered decades later, became the beginning of a creative journey I now love sharing with others.

I believe creativity is a universal human quality.

It belongs to all of us, even if we’ve forgotten it along the way. Life gets busy, responsibilities take over, or perhaps someone once told us we weren’t artistic. But the desire to create never really disappears—it simply waits for us to make space for it again.

That was my experience. When I was eleven years old, my father gave me a watercolor set. I painted with it occasionally, but I didn’t understand the medium and didn’t have the right supplies or instruction to make it enjoyable. The watercolor kit was eventually packed away, and for many years I hardly thought about it.

More than thirty years later, I picked up that same watercolor set. Determined to learn, I immersed myself in books and online classes and gradually began to understand watercolor’s unique qualities. What started as a creative experiment became both a passion and a source of peace. I discovered that painting encouraged me to slow down, focus on the present moment, and appreciate the beauty around me in a deeper way.

My husband and I love hiking, traveling, and exploring new places, especially throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We used to hurry along the trail, stop briefly for a photograph at the overlook, and move on to the next destination. Now we carry sketchbooks and paintbrushes. Instead of simply taking a picture, we spend time observing the light, the colors, and the feeling of a place before creating a small sketch or painting. Those pages have become some of our most treasured travel memories.

I founded Lake Glenville Art because I want to make watercolor accessible to everyone. Watercolor is one of the most approachable art mediums—you don’t need a studio full of supplies to get started—but learning a few fundamental techniques makes all the difference between frustration and enjoyment. My goal is to give students the confidence to understand how watercolor works so they can continue creating long after class is over.

Whether you’re visiting the Lake Glenville area, looking for a unique mountain experience, or beginning a creative journey of your own, I hope you’ll join me. My classes are small, relaxed, and welcoming, with step-by-step instruction and plenty of individual encouragement. I believe that everyone has the ability to create something beautiful, and I’d love to help you discover the joy of watercolor.
